The importance of recalls in Implant Dentistry.

Just as I always stress how important recalls are after root canal treatments to assess healing, I feel that recalls are equally (if not even more) important in implant dentistry.

Given the prevalence of peri-implantitis (inflammation of gums around implants) discussed in the literature, it is critical to follow-up with implant cases over the years to document how they perform. 

Here was one of my implant cases.  The last image reveals the follow-up x-ray and I am happy to observe the bone level is similar to the day of placement. With good soft tissue thickness, the implant continues to remain steady.

We have come a long way to understanding what factors are critical to long term stability of our implants.
